Buff News
I spend a lot of evenings reading various news stories about the Buffs and other college football teams. When I find something interesting, I will share it here. Did you find something I missed, please e-mail me and let me know.
September 2009 Articles
- Monday-September 14, 2009-So you want a new coach? You might need to put up some serious cash so we can get rid of Hawkins. $3 million is a lot of greenbacks.
- Monday-September 14, 2009-We might get some help at receiver with Simas coming back to play this week against Wyoming.
- Monday-September 14, 2009-Stuart Mandel from SI.com tears apart the Buffs for their horrible performance this season. He also takes Bohn to task for trying to say that the Buffs had a bunch of issues five years ago.
- Saturday-September 12, 2009-I find it troubling that I am agreeing Kizla so much right now. Bohn is going to have to make some tough decisions about Hawk if things don't turn around in a hurry.
- Saturday-September 12, 2009-Neil Woelk calls the loss to Toledo the worst since CU lost to Drake in 1980, I personally think it is the worst since Montana State, but I was not a Buff fan when we lost to Drake. I was 2.
- Monday-September 7, 2009-I couldn't have said it better than my buddy at the Camera. Hawk gets outcoached way too much.
- Monday-September 7, 2009-Mark Kizla makes some good points about Hawk's use of Darrell Scott. Why was he on the bench? Why weren't we working to establish a running game?
- Friday-September 4, 2009-In this article from the Denver Post a bunch of whiny CSU students complain that we should be giving them a bigger section and lower priced tickets at Folsom. Maybe they can teach some basic economics about home teams versus away teams up at CSU next semester?
- Thursday-September 3, 2009-I think this video may be a couple of years old, but when I saw it made me laugh. This baby only cries when the Michigan Fight Song plays. You can bet your bottom dollar that I will be teaching Morgan the same thing when the Nebraska or CSU fight song plays.

- Tuesday-September 1, 2009-Real Clear Sports breaks down the top-10 stadium entrances. There is a little bit of an East Coast bias, but they do rank the Buffs 5th. I don't know how you top running behind a 1300 lb. Buffalo as you enter the stadium, but I am little biased too.
August 2009 Articles
- Monday-August 31, 2009-Kirk Herbstreit does his preseason awards and predictions. He lists the Buffs as a sleeper in the Big 12. Not too bad for a guy that Jenna calls "dreamy."
- Sunday-August 30, 2009-Neil Woelk predicts 8 wins and Buffs bowl game. I agree entirely that eight wins is about what we have on our schedule with 9 being a successful season. We don't have the horses yet to run with Texas and Oklahoma State.
- Friday-August 28, 2009-A story about how the Rams are having trouble simulating the Buffs because they don't have enough speed. I will leave that joke alone.
- Wednesday-August 26, 2009-While this is not a Buffs article, Indiana is where my lovely wife graduated from and the AD's daughter is practically family for us. Makes a whole lot of sense to give up a home game to get $3 million. That is a lot of money for a football game at a non-football school.
- Wednesday-August 26, 2009-USA Today did a special about the glory years for each Division I school. For the Buffs it is hard to argue with 1989-1995. Hopefully, we will see another period of glory years.
- Tuesday-August 25, 2009-Probably one of the most interesting articles of the month about how SI is suing all public universities who participate in the USA Today Coaches poll to release how the coaches vote. We all know what happened to the Buffs because of Tom Osborne in 1991. The coaches should have to publicize their votes to ensure there is no tomfoolery.
- Friday-August 21, 2009-An editorial from the Boulder Daily Camera discussing the role that atheletics plays in promoting the academics of a school dispite the objections from the intellectual elite. An interesting perspective because I believe it would hurt Boulder's academic reputation to let a few more football players who do not qualify academically.
- Friday-August 21, 2009-This article from the WSJ talks about how Budweiser is taking heat for the marketing of college colored cans near campus' including CU. I think it is a great idea and the color of a can is not going encourage college kids to binge drink. Being in college is encouraging college kids to binge drink.
- Friday-August 21, 2009-Forbes ranked over 600 schools using a variety of factors. CU scored 187th on the list. The were the second highest ranked Big-12 school behind number 174 Texas. When they did public schools, CU ranked 22nd and Texas 19th. In case you were wondering, CSU was ranked as the 58th best public university (behind other state schools like Fort Lewis, Mines and CU Denver) and 302nd overall.
- Wednesday-August 19, 2009-An idoit writer for the Daily Nebraskan ranked the Big 12 coaches from worst to first. While I do not think Coach Hawk is the best coach in the Big 12, he is certianly not the the second worst and Bo Pelini is not the third best coach. The comment calling the guy an idiot on the story is from me.
